Carp Style Kung Fu

February 5, 2018/ /

Carp Style kung fu takes its influences from this iconic fish, with its flowing movements and quick changes of direction. Students are taught patterns which emulate entire shoals as they work to baffle a predator by sticking together, even though the student will be performing alone. Patterns look free-flowing and spontaneous, meant to dazzle a potential enemy, but they are, like all patterns, carefully choreographed.

Carp Style was founded by Zhou Lai Zheng, from one of the first generations of the Long Yu Fleet, who worked as a fisherman and was captivated and inspired by the graceful movements of carp.
